Architecture

Sappada Vecchia
The architectural complex consists of two main typical buildings, the house (haus) and the stable (schtol), merged and interconnected or separated. The buildings follow the constructive Block-bau system, characterized by the use of wooden beams embedded in the corners and resting on a stone plinth.
The traditional house is usually made up of two or more floors in the stone base we usually find the cellar (Kelder) and the laundry facilities (bòschkuchl), which could also be external. Tearched gate (tour) leads to a corridor (Labe), that divides the building longitudinally into two parts. In the south side there is the kitchen (Kuchl) with the fireplace, where they used to smok meat, and the dining room (Kòschtibe) covered with wood and heated by the large stone made fireplace (kòchlouvn). In the north side there is a closet (schtibile) or a chamber (kommer). We access to the second floorupstairs where there are the bedrooms. The barn is usually a building on two floors on the ground floor there is a compartment wall divided into two equal parts and paved, where the cows were housed, and a pen for the pigs in a corner.
