Maria Luggau

Maria Luggau
The Marian sanctuary of Maria Luggau has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries. This pilgrimage is one of the most important religious customs of Sappad. People go on foot from Sappada to the Austrian village of Maria Luggau.
The pilgrimage staited in 1804 as a vote to plead with the help of the Virgin against the plague that had hit the animal. Together with the inhabitants of Sappada in recent years have joined groups from Sauris, Forni di Sopra, Ampezzo and thus involving about 300 people. This event offers a fantastic opportunity to hike along a path which, in about 9 hours of walking, leads in Austria. The pilgrimage takes place the third weekend in September.
The procession stars at dawn on Saturday (at 3:30) from Cima Sappada Sources reaches of the Piave and Refuge P.F. Calvi. From here proceed to the Austrian Hut and then to the Shrine, where we arrive for 13:30. S. Mass at the shrine takes place on Sunday morning at 8:00 and soon after his departure for Sappada.
